Headmistress said:
Welcome to the great guide of Species classification, which my dear friend, Bill, has allowed me to edit for the school's means, within these pages you will find all the information required for your classification of species class, although some details are still left unknown on some of the more rare species, examples have been used in this guide to aide you, students, in the your quest to understand the magical world, and in making it possible for you to note your own classification on unknown species, or possibly to anotate your own understanding of species in your course notes. For having created the classification guide, and being such a strong and knowledgeable guide himself to all magical creature, many thanks are extended by the Scholaes to him.
All resources found at the library will be using the Cyoher Classification Style, described in this guide, as a way to say thanks once more, and also simplify the search for information itself
Elementals
Elementals are said to be the creators of the world, the strongest being around, with powers as diversified as the species which exist in this universe. For the use of the CCS Elementals will be defined as the embodiment of the elements; By this it is meant that they are often made from the element which they represent, such as a water elemental will quite literally be made of water, or a fire elemental will be made of fire, at the least in majority when in it's natural form, as most elementals are able to change their form to resemble mortal beings.
Elementals are not restricted in type, as multiple elementals may be attributed the same element if they are of a different form than those already in the said element; two elementals may share an element if they are of differing forms, such as a hawk and a lion. Within this seperation, by element, there is another way to distinguish them, by using their shapeform, although some elementals prefer a shapeless allure, and so are categorized under the shapeless label.
The powers of the elementals if they were to be categorized would fall into the "Creation" group, as they can create, as well as control, any and all segments of their element, however elementals lose much of their control when it is outside of themselves, in this fashion an elemental may have perfect control to use their element inside their own body, but quickly lose control over it the further from themselves they are trying to use their element on, resulting in much larger, but much less powerful flames in the case of a fire elemental, or a wave rather than a cylinder of water, for it's watery counterpart.
Spirits
Spirits make up the non physical spectrum of the world, filling in the nooks and cranies of the physical realm with the magic which we may or may not observe. Unlike elementals, the spirits do not typically create segments of their element, but rather only control it, there are however some exceptions to this rule of thumb,if a spirit is extremely powerful it may create a small form of its element then control it to bigger proportions
Unlike elementals the spirits have greater control at long distances, often being able to control almost to perfection at a distance where an elemental would fatigue itself even attempting to create at such a distance. This leads to spirits often fighting at a longer distance than elementals, but ate often restricted in movement to a source if their element.
As previously mentioned the spirits would fall into the "Control" power class due yo their ability to control their elements so well rather than creating it.
It has been seen for a spirit and an elemental to work together when in a tight spot to overcome obstacles. Often these inter-class relations are temporary and may up of a spirit and an elemental of the same element, due to one being a movable source and the other having great control over the element in question. It has also been seen once for a spirit and an elemental of differing elements to work together to create what is now known as █████████████████
Physical
If the elementals make up the world at large, and the spirits are what is within the astral planes, then all the creatures which do not form these elements are within the physical class. This simply implies that they exist in the physical realms rather than the spiritual, and are not creators of the world.
These creatures are separated into three categories: the beasts, the humanoids, and lastly the hybrids. Within these subtypes can be classified any creature which can be seen, including the forms taken by the spirits and elementals, although this would only describe the form rather than the being itself.
The beast class encompasses any creature which has no relation physiologically to humans. This subclass is further refined by a single type, the chimera, which is a mixture of creatures within the beast subtype, although not of the chimera group.
The humanoid class is used to define creatures which bear a strong resemblance to humans, and do not possess animalistic traits, such as elves. This subtype does not possess a more precise sub-classification.
The last subtype within the physical class is the hybrid, which unlike the chimeras does possess some human features, such as a lizard hybrid could result in a man with lizard scales. Not much more can be said past this point, due to the fair rareness of these creatures.
