SPECIES NAME: Djinn
TYPE: Elemental, Specialized, Humanoid
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
The Djinn are separated into five castes. In ascending order of power, these castes are the Djenn, Djinn, Shai'tan, Ifrit and Marid. They are humanoid by default, though a handful of them possess the ability to alter their shape. Their basic shapes are varying in size based in caste, with the Djenn standing slightly below five feet in height and the Marids over eight feet tall. Their skin colours vary from stark white, bright red, indigo blue and pitch black, with all colours being equally present in all castes. Djinn eyes are usually intensly bright colours which burn when they use their powers.
TYPICAL BEHAVIOUR:
Djinn are as diverse as humanity in terms of personality. Djinn and Djenn in particular tend to be benevolent and helpful to humans they come across, while Marids and Ifrit lean to capriscious and self-serving tendencies.
ABILITIES:
All Djinn posses power over the elements of Air and Fire to varying degrees, though they usually specialize in one or the other. Ifrits and Shai'tans always specialize in Fire and Wind respectively, while the other three go by personal preference. Extremely powerful Marids, however, are capable of spreading themselves evenly over the two domains without losing too much.
A select handful of Djinn also possess the ability of shapeshifting, though the ability is mostly limited to the powerful Marids or the lowly Djenn.
All Djinn can fly.
DRAWBACKS:
There is a reason Djinn reside in the desert: as beings born of smoke, they're at their best in warm and dry environments and lose the majority of their powers when underground or underwater. There also exist numerous ways for humans to bind Djinn to their will with various spells, leading to the story of the Djinni in the magic lamp.
HABITAT:
Djinn live in their own hidden cities in the desert. Their level of prosperity usually mirrors that of the Muslim world, and have such have been in decline since the fall of the Caliphate hundreds of years ago.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
As a general rule of thumb there is an inverse ration between the power of the Djinn and their helpfulness.
