NAME: Eyildr Hrið
AGE: 13
GENDER: Female
SCHOOLING YEAR: 1st year
SPECIES: Nymph (Storm)
PLACE OF ORIGIN: Nykan, Norway
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Eyildr represents well her environment; she’s a little storm. She rushes around all the time and barely manages to stay still during an entire class. Her affinity with storms makes her rush outside as soon as something seems to be about to hit, but hide in when the sky only offers blue lands of cloudless shades. The nymph is also really close to her sister even if they are different and tend to argue. Eyildr stands on the passive side, taking blows and trying to reach out through peaceful techniques.
You can mess with her, but the little tornado shall always find a way to strike back; not causing harm doesn’t mean that she’s defenseless.
LIKES: Storms, Islands, Thunder, Lighthouses
DISLIKES: Quiet/Silence, Technology (passed 1990), Blue skies, Exams
STRENGTHS:
+ Really good communication with her sister
+ Doesn’t need much sleep to function
+ She’s good at finding her way back, by following the winds
WEAKNESSES:
- Unable to stay focused on a task for too long
- Does not like camp fires and try to avoid the element as much as possible
- She looses control easily over her powers
FEARS: Eyildr is terrified of big cities where storms and chaos are always regulated by human beings.
Windows are a surprisingly scary thing for her? Once stuck behind one she loses access to her beloved chaos. I guess this could be defined as being indoors, but yeah. Windows are the worst! You can see it, but you can’t touch it.
POWER(S):
Environmental control: Storm nymphs are a bit on the special side, since it’s hard to give a precise description of their related element. Eyildr is capable of a great control over wind and a somewhat acceptable one over rain and snow.. well she has the potential, but for now the powers are not that great. These capacities are enhanced during a storm, but on a regular basis, they’re pretty limited.
Astral projection: Eyildr has, like most of the nymphs, the capacity to project her soul outside of her body. On stormy days, she can go pretty far with that power, but on boring sunny days, she is limited to a small range in meters.
Telepathy: This is a capacity unusual from nymphs, but quite common in twins, which is where it comes from in this case. Eyildr is able to communicate telepathically with her sister, the distance at which they can communicate is limited to the amount of power they have at that time.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Storm nymphs have barely any color to play with. Between the shades from white to grey of the clouds and lightning’s blue-ish coloration, there is not much to work with. So here goes; Eyildr has jet black hair with white-blue-ish strikes that resemble lightning striking a night sky; it is wavy and reaches her lower back. Her skin is as pale as white clouds and her eyes, blue.
She is of average size for a nymph, with her 4'9", her few years of growth yet foreshadow a precise and exact 5”! Her frame is more on the petite side, with a thin bone structure and little skin and fat to colour it. As a nymph, she should put on a bit of weight to become more attractive, but it is not a priority for now.
She always wears a typical flowy dress, proper to the nymphs. However, she quickly learnt to adapt the clothing to vast travels and forests and has sewed it up. The blue dress is tied at the middle to separate the legs and make it easier to climb.
She is always barefoot.
HISTORY: The story of Eyildr and Elevine doesn’t start so long ago, barely a few months before their birth; 13 years in the past. It begins in the quiet of night as an ocean nymph wondered the shore, looking for a lost traveler. It is commonly known that nymphs can only give birth to female beings, which is why she wandered in search of a male that night. It didn’t take so long to speak truth, just a lonely sailor passing the night on the beach to relax and stay away from home. From then on the plan was simple, bring him to the bottom of the ocean where he would probably drown and it’ll be over. But unexperienced, the nymph’s tease didn’t work out all so well, ending under a stormy sky and oh so far away from the bottom of the ocean. The man survived the night, but it was sure that no ocean nymph would be born out of this.
A few months later, a storm nymph was born, a nymph that would grow with the winds and never really find shelter under the ocean. Overall, a child that wouldn’t be raised by her own mother. Already torn to leave her first child behind, the woman found herself with new contractions announcing a second child; Elevine, a void nymph. But I guess the reason why she was born of a non-existing element is Elevine’s business to explain.
The island of Nydan, where the twins were born is a really small island. Lacking imposing vegetation and any sign of life, it is host to a few small houses and a lighthouse. A small island of sailors, one could say. It didn’t take them long to find the two daughters of the ocean and raise them, at least for the first few years. Nymphs have the tendency to gain consciousness earlier than humans which quickly separated Eyildr apart from the men. Not that she wouldn’t care for them, but the call of the skies and storms constantly grew louder, imploring her to leave the ground. One night, as she was walking on the shore, the child crossed path with a beautiful lady she had never met before. The long sandy hair with blue highlights and eyes of the same blue quickly struck Eyildr; she knew the woman.
After that night, the storm nymph visited on a regular basis, trying to build a bond with her child and explaining to her this and that about her true nature. Information Eyildr would share excitedly with her twin every day, trying to bring her to see their mother. However, as strange as it would sound, the ocean nymph did not want to see the child, she would even walk away every time she stepped on the shore. The storm nymph never truly understood the distance between her sister and mother, but she came to a conclusion that she could only do little about it.
Eyildr was a really energetic child, always running around the small village and climbing up the lighthouse as often as possible. Behaviour her mother turned to her own advantage before long. You see, ocean nymphs are quite hard to perpetuate. To get an ocean child, you need to bring a man to the bottom of the ocean willingly and be ocean born yourself. So giving birth to a storm and a void child brought shame to the nymph who wished to get rid of such humiliation as soon as possible. By spending time with Eyildr, the lady progressively manipulated the child into believing that she would be able to become a true ocean nymph only on the day where she would bring sailors to the nets of her sisters and family members.
From that day on, Eyildr started observing the movements of the boats. Running around and asking an increasingly large amount of questions about those travelling machines that were miraculously able to reach shore safe when storms were breaking the entire visibility. Modern boats are often equipped with sonars, was she explained, however, old boats rely on the guiding light of the lighthouse. Thanks to the wonderful and gigantic light, sailors would know where the island stands and locate themselves accordingly to it, on the map. So without the light, she inquired, people would hit rocks and break their boats? Unfortunately for the poor men who would suffer from this information, people answered with a nod, believing that it simply was a meaningless question; a way to admire the importance of the lighthouse.
Life went on and years passed, softly separating the twins into their own beliefs. Thankfully, the sisters remained close even with all that going on, on the side. Fights would occur every now and then, but that’s a normal thing between siblings. Eyildr progressively learnt to control her powers during storms, creating strong winds and learning how to push objects towards rocks. It wasn’t a proper skill, but good enough for her. Eventually, she also gained the ability to move the rain sideways and create dry paths on rainy days. No, she did not realize that she was a storm nymph and that she would never be able to be like her mother. But whoever tried to tell her was met with an outburst of rage and a young nymph either running outside the room or away.
So a day, perhaps a month ago, a storm decided to hit the island of Nykan. Many boats were at sea and their lack of resources would make the situation really dangerous, to come back. A general mistake really, storms were usually really well predicted, but not that day. Eyildr jumped on the occasion and ran to the lighthouse. There she found little people really, for most were at sea and the light was already activated. The young nymph went through the control panels, finding the electricity switch before too long. Lights off, she felt like she was finally doing something that mattered. She went back outside to the cliffs, to see the boats as they approached. A fog started installing itself all around, even more perfect for lives to be taken. Eyildr observed the movements of the boats and started creating unpredictable winds, hitting the boats with strength and deviating their trajectory.
By the next morning, the storm had shred apart 5 boats, taking by the same occasion the lives of 13 sailors. Eyildr walked to the shore, where she waited for hours on end for her mother to show up. The child waited as the sun rose. The child waited as the sun burnt the fields. The child waited as the sun went down. The child still sat as darkness fell. But no one came. By the second sunrise, the storm nymph felt someone show up behind her. She held in her hands a letter with a broken seal. Apparently Elevine was in life threatening danger and she had to leave for her own safety. Eyildr was invited to join the establishment if so she wished, but she was alright for now and she could keep on living her life on the reclused island.
Twins are never to be separated, so the duo quickly packed up. They—well Eyildr, thanked the villagers and both took off.
Today, the twins are sharing a room in the school and preparing to attend their first official day. The storm nymph still hopes for her mother to come see her one morning and guide her to the bottom of the ocean, where she’ll become the ocean nymph she was always meant to be.
Please do not tell her that it’ll never happen; she’s still at the point of acceptance where she’ll throw a tantrum at you and leave.
FAMILY: Parents are not really an important element in the life of Eyildr, she has a mother but does nothing of it now. The only blood linked magical being that matters is her twin, Elevine.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: When you hurt a twin, the other strikes back 3 times harder.
